Peter Sperlich, President of Canadian Pride Log & Timber Products is hosting a gathering of fellow builders and provincial and municipal dignitaries, to bear witness to the value of BC’s Log & Timber-Frame Industry. Revolving around the recent completion and pending container-loading of a custom BC log and timber-frame home bound for Germany, the event will celebrate the sector’s success and contribution to the BC economy, as well as provide for discussion on current and future challenges.

“It’s time for some good news from BC’s forest Industry”, says Sperlich. “BC’s log and timber homes are renowned worldwide for their elegance and craftsmanship, as well as being one of the most sustainable forms of construction.” According to Sperlich, “our sector can help offset the impact of mill closures as the primary industry transitions down to a milling capacity more in balance with BC’s long-term supply. This is because log and timber framed homes are job-intensive, generating approximately 3% of all Interior wood processing jobs with about .002% of the annual allowable cut.”

Also on the agenda for discussion is the recently completed Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development Interior Forest Renewal process. Key to securing and facilitating future growth of the log home and timber-frame sector, according to Sperlich, “is a system that ensures the appropriate fibre flows to where it can generate the best economic benefit—which could be a win-win if value added companies can source more of their feedstock from primary producers.”  Several initiatives related to the thermal resistance of log homes and their “green footprint” will also be highlighted.

The event takes place Friday, October 25, at 11:00 am on the grounds of Sperlich Log Construction, 203 Brickyard Road, Enderby, BC. Confirmed participants include MLA Greg Kyllo, Enderby Mayor Greg McCune, Armstrong Mayor Chris Pieper and Splatsin First Nation Chief Wayne Christian, with invites to representatives of the Ministry of Forest personnel and others.
