Bear hunt future still uncertain beyond pilot project

TIMMINS – Ontario’s new Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry says he is going to wait to see the data collected from the current pilot project before deciding the future of the spring bear hunt in this province. When the legislature returned to Queen’s Park earlier this month, premier Kathleen Wynne named MPP Bill Mauro (Liberal — Thunder Bay-Atikokan). Mauro, who was first elected in 2003, isn’t a stranger to the MNR portfolio as he served as a parliamentary assistant from 2007 to 2009. Mauro took over the ministry from MPP David Orazietti, who is now the minister responsible for Government and Consumer Services.
