Tree Frog Forestry News

A champion narrowleaf cottonwood tree discovered in Joliet last year is being cloned so that its successful genes can be preserved for another generation. The work is a cooperative project involving several partners orchestrated by Marty Flanagan of Big Timber, a big-tree hunter. “We are all pretty excited about the project,” Flanagan said. “It’s the work I have long been willing to do.” The cottownwood, which stands next to Highway 212 just south of the Joliet Motel, has been recognized as an American Forests National Big Tree Champion.
