Jay Bryan: US housing industry rebuilding after crisis

MONTREAL – Even with the advantage of hindsight, it’s hard to take in the full, catastrophic dimensions of the U.S. housing collapse that began six years ago, triggering a global financial crisis and recession. Now, at long last, it seems to be ending. …But with both construction of new homes and sales of existing ones now clearly moving upward, it’s likely that housing is beginning to heal, believes James Marple, a senior economist with TD Bank. “Having housing as part of the U.S. recovery is when we’ll really see a more normal” post-recession rebound after years of modest growth, Marple predicts.
